Psychomotor Development 3 semester hours
Course Description: This course discusses the major theories of psychomotor development and the application to the development of the young child ages birth to nine. Particular emphasis is placed on the positive development of motor skills. Field experiences required. (Pre-requisite: ECED 2020) Course Outcomes: The student will: · Know and understand vocabulary specific to the study of psychomotor development. · Describe the basic sensory and perpetual abilities of the fetus, neonate, infant, toddler, and the child through age nine. · Understand “norms” and give pertinent examples of norm usage. · Know and understand the contributions of major theorists who have added to the knowledge of the child’s psychomotor development. · Know about motor development screening tools for young children. · Identify strategies for cooperating with families to improve opportunities for optimal motor development of young children. · Develop strategies for including physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged children in a quality psychomotor program. · Demonstrate ability to plan developmentally appropriate movement activities using various themes for multi-ages. · Know how to integrate music and movement into the curriculum, transition times, and outdoor activities.
