Early Childhood Curriculum 3 semester hours Course Description: A study of developmentally appropriate practices and the teacher’s role in supporting development of young children ages birth to nine. An emphasis on curriculum planning including goals, environment, roles of teachers and parents, materials, and settings. Field experiences required. (Pre-requisite: ECED 1010 and 2010) Course Outcomes: The student will: · Use knowledge of how children develop and learn to provide opportunities that support the physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive, and aesthetic development of all young children. · Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement meaningful, integrated learning experiences fro young children. · Identify child outcomes in content areas of language and literacy, mathematical thinking, nature and science, and artistic expression for early education. · Demonstrate understanding of teaching strategies to achieve the identified outcomes in content areas. · Identify specific positive guidance strategies for use in the early childhood setting. · Know about and use child observation and documentation techniques.
