ECED 2120

Administration of Child Care Centers

3 semester hours

 

Course Description:

      A study of organization and administration practices applicable to the child care center.  Topics of special consideration will include leadership, enrollment and public relations, staff-management, financial management, facilities, regulations, parent relations, and program development.  Field experiences required.

 Course Outcomes:

      The student will:

·        Understand positive communication techniques and what motivates staff.

·        Distinguish between different types of early childhood programs.

·        Understand the differences in types of assessments used to determine community needs for child care.

·        Know and understand Tennessee’s Licensing Standards.

·        Understand what the basics are for choosing a philosophy.

·        Know the basic principles of establishing and working with a board.

·        Understand basic concepts of preparing and reading a budget form.

·        Identify different types of funding sources.

·        Understand basic concepts of developing, equipping, staffing, publicizing a child care center.

·        Know the different forms that are needed and required to enroll a child in a child care program.

·        Understand basic principles of managing the food, health and safety issues of a child care program.

·        Understand the purpose of different types of evaluation tools.

·        Understand how to provide personal and professional staff development utilizing the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

·        Identify ways to communicate and work with parents, volunteers and the community.

·        Understand communication skills necessary for working with child care boards, staff, colleagues, child and parents in a child care setting.

·        Identify different administrative styles and roles.
